But first a little history on why and how the tournament started....East Tennessee slow pitch teams start play before Middle Tennessee teams, the two never meet until State Tournament time, or near there. The need was for an earlier tournament in a location convenient to both .
Cookeville had a new complex and fit the bill as a good location. Mike Mason started the tournament to give teams a quality outing before State and World tourneys giving teams a chance to work and improve their game.
We now are working at taking it to the next level(there's a sports term) by recruiting out of state teams, witnessed by the fact Georgia and Alabama both had 2000 entries and Ohio had a coach here scouting. Look for the Classic to grow from out of state entries as the word spreads that this is a tournament worth playing.

Back after a year layoff and better than ever, 23 teams spent the day in Cookeville and what a day it was! Cookeville Classic showed why in it's short history it as earned the title of "best little one day tournament in the South".
